The one-page guide

  1. Pick one paid highlight (most visitors choose a river architecture cruise).
  2. Add free stops: Millennium Park, the Riverwalk, a Chicago Greeter visit.
  3. Check free museum days and library passes if you live in Illinois.
  4. Compare the same ticket on the official site and one booking site.
  5. Book with free cancellation where you can, and save the confirmation.
  6. Use the CTA instead of a car downtown.

Prices and availability change. This list is in no particular order and nobody paid to be on it.

Where to stay

Compare on Booking.com, Hotels.com or Vrbo (for whole homes). Check the city hotel tax and any “destination fee” in the total before you book. Getting around: the CTA reaches most sights; you rarely need a car downtown.
